Text: Matthew 20,25-28
When
the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers.
Jesus called them together and said „You know that the rulers of the
Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority
over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among
you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your
slave – just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,
and to give his life as a ransom for many“. (New International
Version Bible)
열 제자가 듣고 그 두 형제에 대하여 분히 여기거늘 예수께서 제자들을 불러다가 가라사대
이방인의 집권자들이 저희를 임의로 주관하고 그 대인들이 저희에게 권세를 부리는 줄을 너희가 알거니와 너희중에는 그렇지 아니하니
너희중에 누구든지 크고자 하는 자는 너희를 섬기는 자가 되고 너희중에 누구든지 으뜸이 되고자 하는 자는 너희 종이 되어야
하리라. 인자가 온것은 섬김을 받으려 함이 아니라 도리어 섬기려 하고 자기 목숨을 많은 사람의 대속물로 주려 함이니라.
형제 자매 여러분
그리스도 인들은 그들이 믿는 존재를 표현하는데 다양한 방법들을 사용합니다.
그리스도 신앙의 중심은 하나이고 유일합니다. 그것은 바로 예수그리스도를 통해 형성된 하나님과 인간과의 새로운 관계인것입니다.
그러나 그리스도 공동체역사에 있어서 믿는자들이 그들의 하나님과의 관계와 그로인한 하나님의 형상을 분명히 하였던 다양한 방법들을 볼수 있습니다.
성경에서도 우리는 하나님이 어떠한 분이시며, 그가 그의 모든 피조물들과 어떤 관계를 맺고 있는 가에 관한것이 다양하게 묘사되어 있습니다.
모든 믿는 그리스도인에게 있어서 올바른 하나님의 형상을 안다는 것은 매우 중요합니다.
하나님이 누구이시고, 일반적인 의미에서뿐아니라, 개인적으로 그분을 안다는 것이 우리에게는 매우 중요한것입니다.
그분은 누구이시고 내 믿음의 인생에 있어서 어떤 역할을 하시는 것일까요?
이것은 우리의 믿음의 질과 다른 사람 과의 관계가 우리가 올바른 성경적인 하나님의 상을 가지고 있느냐 아니냐에 달려있기 때문에 매우 중요한 것입니다.
성경이 하나님에 대하여 이야기 할때 ,일상적인 삶의 모습이나 묘사들을 매우 자주 사용하고 있습니다.
이러한 모습들이 우리에게 신학적인 언어로된 추상적 개념보다 훨씬 잘 하나님의 특성을 나타내줍니다.
예수님과 그의 제자들도 이러한 식으로 아주 단순하고 간단하게 말씀하곤 했습니다.
후에 그리스도교 역사에서 때때로 다른 하나님의 상이, 심지어 나쁘고 올바르지 못한 하나님 상이 지배적인 때가 있었습니다,
역사상 많은 사람들이, 그리고 심지어 지금도 많은 사람들이 하나님은 보좌에 앉아서 다른 모든 피조물들에게 시중들도록 요구하시고, 그에게 영광을 돌리도록 요구하시는 통치자로 생각하고 있습니다.
이러한 하나님 상은 하나님은 우리의 매일매일의 평범한 삶에는 아무런 관심이 없으신 멀리있는 통치자 정도로 하나님을 나타내는 것입니다.
이러한 정체된 그림에서는 우리가 인간의 문제 한가운데서 활동하시는 하나님을 소망할 수 없게 합니다.
게다가 이러한 하나님 상은 잘못된 것 일뿐아니라 다른 사람에 대하여 유사한 통치를 하려는 태도를 불러 이르키기 때문에 심각한 결과를 초래하게 됩니다.
이 시대는 거의 모든사람이 가능한한 많이 다른 사람을 지배하기를 원합니다.
이 시대에 지배하는 하나님이 아닌 다른 하나님에 대하여 말하는 성경말씀에 귀 기울이는 것이 중요합니다.
성경에서 보여주는 하나님은 보좌에 앉아계시지 않습니다.
성경의 하나님은 땅으로 내려오셨습니다.
하나님은 인간과 하나되기 위하여서, 인간의 삶과 운명을 함께 나누기 위하여서 인간에게 오셨습니다.
성경은 과거 역사상에서 뿐만아니라 지금 이 시간에 , 우리 회중에, 또한 우리 개인 개인의 인생에서 살아 활동하시는 하나님이심을 보여주고 있습니다.
오늘 본문 마태복음에서 우리는 완연히 상반된 상태의 두 모습을 보게 됩니다.
예수님 제자중 두 명이 천국에서 가장 높은 자리를 달라고 예수님께 요청합니다.
그에 대한 대답에서 예수님은 하나님나라와 이 세상 나라와의 완연한 차이를 저희에게 인식하게 하십니다.
이말씀은 요한 복음에 명확하게 묘사되어있습니다. ‘ 내 나라는 이세상에 속한것이 아니라.’
초대 크리스챤들에게 있어서 이러한 차이는 예수님과 가이사와의 차이에서 명백히 보여졌습니다.
초대 기독교인들은 그들의 믿음을 구주 그리스도안에서의 믿음으로 표현했습니다.
이런식으로 그들은 가이사처럼 통치하지 않으시고, 다른 사람들을 종으로 만들지 않으시는 하나님안에 그들의 신앙을 선포했습니다.
진정한 성경적인 하나님은 그의 신민들과 하나님 나라의 모든 백성들을 섬기기 원하시는 구세주로 오십니다.
이말은 즉 하나님의 위대하심은 다른사람을 작게 만드는 위대하심이 아니며 , 하나님의 강하심은 다른 사람을 약하게 만드는 강함이 아님을 의미합니다.
바로 이것이 예수님께서 예수님을 따르고자 하는 자들에게 기대하시는 것입니다.
예수님이 보시기에 위대한 사람은 다른사람을 위대하게 만드는 사람인 것입니다.
강한사람은 다름이 아닌 다른 사람을 강하게 하기위하여 권력과 힘을 사용하는 그런 사람인것입니다.
주님은 예수그리스도를 따르는 우리 모두에게 그가 하고 계심과 같이 우리도 행하시기를 원하십니다. 그리하여서 온 세상에 주님의 진정한 모습이 명백하게 보여지기를 원하십니다. 아멘
Brothers and sisters in Christ,
Christians use different ways, in which they express, what they believe in.
The center of christian faith is one and unique– it is the new relationship between God and man, established through Christ.
However,
in the history of christian communities we find various ways, in which
believers articulated their relation to God, and therefore their image
of God.
Even in the Bible itself we can find different means, how to
characterize God, and the way in which is He related to all the other
beings.
For every believing Christian it is of vital importance to find proper and correct image of God.
It is really important for us to find out, who is God, who is He not only generally, but quite personally.
Who is He and which kind of role does He play in my own life of faith.
It
is important, because the quality of our faith and our relation to
other people depends on whether we have correct, biblical image of God.
When the Bible speaks about God, it uses very often images and pictures, taken from ordinary life.
These pictures reveal to us the peculiarity of God’s character better than abstract concepts of theological language.
Jesus Himself, and his disciples used to speak in this way – simply and plainly.
Later,
in the history of Christianity, in some of its periods, predominated
sometimes different, and sometimes even bad or incorrect images of God’s
character.
Many people in the history, and many even today,
think of God as about Sovereign, who sits on the throne and requires all
the other beings to serve Him and praise Him glory.
This image presents God as a distant ruler, who doesn’t really care about daily, ordinary life of His subjects.
This static picture doesn’t allow for people to hope in God’s action amidst problems of human life.
And
moreover, such an image of God is not only wrong, but it leads to
serious consequences, because it produces similar ruling attitude
towards the other people.
In our time almost everybody wants to have as much power over the others, as possible.
In our time, it is important to hear to the voice of Scripture, which speaks about different God.
Bible presents to us picture of God, who doesn’t sit on the throne.
God of Bible comes down.
God comes to people, so as to become one of them, to share in the human life and human destiny.
Bible
points to the living and acting God, not only in the past, in the
history, but especially in our own time, in our congregations, in our
individual lives.
In our text from Gospel of Matthew, we can find these two images, standing in a complete contradiction.
Two disciples of Jesus asked Him to give them highest positions in His Kingdom.
In His reply Jesus makes us aware, that there is profound contradiction between God’s Kingdom and every kingdom of Earth.
This idea is clearly expressed in the Gospel of John: “My Kingdom is not from this world” (John 18,36).
This contradiction was for the first christians clearly visible as a contradiction between Christ and the Caesar.
They expressed their faith as a faith in Christ the Lord.
In this way they proclaimed faith in God, who doesn’t want to rule as Caesar, to make others servants.
True God of Bible comes as a Lord, who wants to serve to his subjects, to all the citizens of His Kingdom.
This
means that God’s greatness is not greatness, which makes others small.
God’s power is not power, which makes other powerless.
And it is exactly the same, which expects Jesus from His followers.
In the sight of Jesus only that one is great, who makes others great.
Only that one is strong, who is exercising power to make others stronger.
Jesus
wants all His followers to do the same, what is He doing, and in this
way to make God’s true character visible to all the world. Amen.
